Dana
Sandler, a native of Miami, Florida, began studying music at the
age of four. After ten years of intensive study and competitions
on the piano, she pursued her urges
to express herself through singing.
Classically trained, Dana began to focus her vocal studies on
musical theatre and jazz repertoire.
She was a member of the regional grammy jazz choir and active
in theatre performances throughout her teenage years.
Dana
attended the University of Miami
School of Music between the years of 1999-2003 and received a
Bachelor's Degree in their studio music and jazz program.
While there, she was a member of the acclaimed, Jazz Vocal 1,
Salsa Orchestra and a leader of her own quartet. During the summers
of 2002 and 2003 she was contracted by Royal Caribbean
Cruise Lines to lead a jazz quartet which performed six nights
a week in their on-board jazz club.
Upon
completing her studies at the University of Miami, Dana relocated
to Boston where she was invited to pursue a Master's Degree in
jazz vocal performance at the New England
Conservatory of Music.
While
at NEC, she discovered a new interest in Klezmer music through
Hankus Netsky's Jewish Music Ensemble.
That
same year, she became a member of Khevre,
a Boston-based new Jewish music group led by Michael Winograd.
Dana continues to perform and teach voice around the Boston area.
